Radio Structures BM30 T Installation
This page is quite self-explanatory. It shows the process of clearing, digging, placement of the template, and the drawing and pouring of concrete.
The site was cleared and digging began with thanks to EI6GCB Ollie and EI6GEB Jimmy. The hole ended up somewhat larger than expected about 10 cubes in the end but this allowed for the concrete to run flush with the side walls of the site. Access for the concrete lorrie was also an issue (gates, driveway) so the concrete had to be drawn to the site via teleporter this was not a problem but drew out the procedure. The original 40ft. guyed mast can be seen in some photos it was left in service until the the arrival of the BM30 T. I have no photos of the tower going into position on the base as this happened on an extremely wet day and was a two man job! |
For further information on crank up lattice towers I highly recommend the web pages of Chris Tran GM3WOJ ZL1CT. His web site describes how to install, maintain and use a typical base mounted telescopic lattice mast with special attention to the Versatower BP60. It is a MUST for anyone considering the purchase/installation of a crank up mast. Many thanks to Chris for his permission to link to his excellent resource http://www.qsl.net/gm3woj/latticetower.htm

* IMPORTANT NOTICE*
Crank up and tilt over type towers have many advantages for the radio amateur however due to the nature of their workings they need to be maintained to a very high standard. All aspects of their operation and structural integrity should be inspected throughly at regular intervals. THIS IS A BASIC REQUIREMENT. Failure to do so can result in serious injury, death or damage to property.
